Frequently Asked Questions

1) You’re a journalism major? What are you going to do with that?

There are so many possibilities! I'm primarily interested in traditional print journalism, but I’m also painfully aware of the current state of that industry. I’m curious about audio, particularly podcasting as a medium. I am willing to work freelance, but my long-term goal is to find a staff position. I will consider remote work but not relocation -- I want to stay rooted in the greater Nashville area.

2) What kind of stories are you interested in?

I want to write the kind of stories people keep thinking about after they read or hear them. I want to follow my curiosity to find answers to questions my readers have wondered about but never asked. I want to shine a light on good (or bad!) things readers might not have noticed otherwise.
I know it’s a cliche, but my community, state and region are full of a rich tapestry of people. Not just the rich, famous and shiny, but regular people doing good things, creating unconventional art and being their weird and splendid selves. I want to shine a light on that.

3) What’s a “non-traditional” student?

I like to say it’s a polite way to call us old. Non-traditional student is an umbrella term that covers students over twenty-five, students with a significant time gap in their education, students who are parents or caregivers and more.
